Edo State Election Tribunal to Deliver Judgment on PDP’s Challenge

The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja is poised to deliver its judgment on the case brought by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Ighodalo is challenging the results of the governorship election held on September 21, 2024.

The three-member panel, chaired by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, reserved its verdict on March 3 after all parties submitted their final written addresses.

Ighodalo and the PDP are contesting the victory of Governor Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that the election was not conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022.

The PDP presented 19 witnesses and submitted numerous documents to support their claims, while the APC called four witnesses. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not present any witnesses.

Supporters from both parties have gathered in the nation’s capital, eagerly awaiting the judgment, which is expected to be delivered shortly.
