DSS Arrests Two Suspects in Uromi Killings of 16 Nigerians

Operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) have arrested two principal suspects linked to the killing of 16 Nigerians of northern descent in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area last week.

According to a statement from Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpehbolo, the arrests were made in Uromi based on credible intelligence. He also mentioned that various security agencies are actively searching for additional suspects involved in the tragic incident.

The statement read: “The suspects were arrested by operatives of the DSS in Uromi, following credible intelligence. Operatives of various security agencies are hunting for other key suspects involved in the unfortunate incidents.”

The two principal suspects have since been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation and prosecution by the appropriate authorities, as reported by The PUNCH. Additionally, 14 other individuals connected to the killings have been moved to Force Headquarters for ongoing investigations.

A source confirmed that the move to transfer the suspects to Abuja aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, stating, “I can confirm that the suspects have been taken to Abuja as directed by the IGP and the investigation is still ongoing.”

Itua also addressed the topic of compensation for the victims’ families, stating he could not confirm whether financial compensation would be provided. However, he indicated that the Edo and Kano state governments are collaborating to determine appropriate compensation for the affected families. “As you are aware, Governor Okpehbolo met with the Kano State Government and visited the families of the 16 individuals who were killed, where he promised compensation,” he noted.
