Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra State election after a landslide victory in the party’s primary held on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
The results, announced at 4:56 a.m. by the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee and Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, showed Ukachukwu securing 1,455 votes. His closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, garnered 67 votes, while Johnbosco Onunkwo and Edozie Madu got 26 and 8 votes respectively. Twenty-six votes were declared invalid.
In his acceptance speech, Ukachukwu thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring a peaceful and transparent process. He also appreciated the APC National Working Committee, Governor Otu’s team, fellow aspirants, and party delegates for their support.
Calling for party unity, he urged his opponents to join forces with him ahead of the November 8 governorship election, pledging to challenge the incumbent, Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), with a united APC front.
“I’ve been instrumental in the emergence of past governors, but now, I’m ready to father myself,” Ukachukwu said, reflecting on his long political journey in Anambra.
Two aspirants—Obiorah Okonkwo and Chukwuma Umeoji—withdrew before the primary, while Paul Chukwuma exited the party entirely.
Out of 1,630 delegates from all 320 wards across Anambra’s 21 LGAs, five per ward participated in the primary.
With the APC ticket secured, Ukachukwu is now set for a high-stakes race against APGA’s Soludo, Labour Party’s George Muoghalu, and candidates from 12 other parties.
