Presidency Says Tinubu Is Governing Nigeria from Abroad Amid Rising Insecurity

Despite being thousands of miles away in Europe, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains actively engaged in national governance, the Nigerian government has assured.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated that President Tinubu is “fully engaged” in running the country during his temporary absence.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains fully engaged in Nigeria’s governance even though he is away in Europe,” the statement read. “His absence remains temporary and in line with the communicated timeframe of approximately two weeks.”

According to Onanuga, Tinubu left Paris for London over the weekend and continues to stay in constant communication with key government officials. He has reportedly issued directives to security agencies in response to growing threats across the country.

“His return to Abuja and resumption of duties at Aso Villa will follow the conclusion of the Easter holiday. The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership,” the statement added.

The government also addressed public concerns, assuring Nigerians that governance remains uninterrupted during Tinubu’s time abroad.

Insecurity Crisis Deepens

Meanwhile, the country continues to face a wave of violent attacks and insecurity. In Plateau State, over 50 people were reportedly killed on Sunday night when gunmen attacked a community around 8 p.m., injuring dozens and razing more than 40 houses. This came just two weeks after a similar attack in Bokkos Local Government Area, which claimed more than 80 lives.

In Borno State, the situation remains dire. Governor Babagana Zulum recently raised concerns about parts of the state falling under the control of armed groups. In a tragic incident last Saturday, at least eight people were killed after an explosive device—believed to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists—detonated on the Damboa-Maiduguri road. Several others were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals.

The rising insecurity has sparked growing calls for urgent and effective action as communities across Nigeria grapple with violence and loss.
