Governor Mutfwang Outraged by Violence in Plateau Communities

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has voiced deep sorrow and outrage over the recent security incidents in the Josho, Manguna, and Daho communities of Bokkos Local Government Area, where gunmen attacked and killed 10 individuals.

In a statement issued by his Director of Press, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang shared that he visited the neighboring community of Ruwai last Saturday following the attack, which targeted mourners gathered to honor their deceased loved ones.

Expressing his condolences to the people of Bokkos and the surrounding areas affected by the violence, Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to addressing insecurity and restoring peace in the region. He condemned the attack on innocent civilians, labeling it a cowardly act.

“The government will not relent in its efforts to safeguard Plateau’s heritage. We stand with the people at all times, and urgent measures are being taken to address the current security threats in the state,” he asserted, encouraging the local community to remain vigilant in protecting their ancestral land. He urged the youth to prioritize surveillance and be cautious about isolated farming to help mitigate further attacks.

In a related response, the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard urged residents to actively defend themselves against ongoing violence. In a statement from its chairman, Farmasum Fuddang, the council lamented that at least 20 individuals had been killed in the past week alone, warning that such unprovoked assaults must not be tolerated.

The group has also called on the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and other relevant authorities to reconsider the previous suspension of gun licenses initiated by former President Muhammadu Buhari. They encouraged citizens to join registered volunteer organizations such as the Hunters and Forest Security Guard Services and Neighborhood Watch to help safeguard their communities against terrorist threats, asserting that these measures should protect them from harassment by security forces while they defend against attacks.
