Osinbajo tasks religious leaders on integrity

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday called on religious leaders to instill the principle of integrity into their followers in order to drive sustainable development in society.

Osinbajo also advised them to condemn unexplained wealth , noting that societies that celebrated corruption suffered the absence of true progress .

He stated these at a public lecture titled , “ The Church, Politics and Nation Building , ” in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Church of God Mission International founded by the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa in Benin , Edo State .

He described the church as the pillar of truth while the utterances of its leaders determined the direction of the many nations .

Osinbajo said , “It is the business of the church to make ruling , to determine what should be said and what should not be said . It is the business of the church to determine what should hold and what should not hold. ’’

He described the late Idahosa as a man who saw that the church would come under attack from its adversaries but believed in God ’ s intervention.

He , therefore , encouraged the followers of the deceased cleric to remain steadfast in the ministry and sustain the legacy.

Earlier , the church Archbishop , Most. Rev . Margaret Benson – Idahosa, said that her husband established a legacy of teaching , service and sacrifice and raised national leaders across cultural divides and ethnicity .

In his address, Governor Godwin Obaseki described Idahosa as a religious leader who revolutionised the pentecostal movement in the African continent .
