Joel Ayayi scored Gonzaga’s first seven points, and both teams got off to quick starts offensively in Saturday’s Final Four showdown between No. 1 seed Gonzaga and No. 11 seed UCLA. But the Bruins took an early 19-15 lead at the game’s second media timeout with 10:55 remaining.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. gave UCLA its first lead on a corner 3-pointer with 15:08 remaining, as the Bruins did a good job of controlling the pace in the opening minutes. The Bruins prefer a deliberate style as opposed to Gonzaga’s frenetic pace.
The winner will face Baylor in the national title game on Monday after the No. 1 seed Bears wrecked No. 2 seed Houston 78-59 in Saturday’s first Final Four game.
A look at the historical accomplishments of both teams suggests the Bulldogs should be the underdog for the game. But even with 11 national titles in its program history, it was UCLA that entered as 14-point underdogs, per William Hill SportsBook.
